Wedding Photography and Flower Color

I would like to take a minute to talk about how your choice in wedding photographer and flower colors can impact the photos of your special day. This is both important in choosing your vendors and in communicating your desires to those vendors, especially when it comes to your florist.

Wedding photography is so much more than it used to be. We have come a long way from the days bright, washed out, flash heavy event photography. Today wedding photographers have a wide variety of styles both in shooting and in editing and these styles can have a big impact on the pictures you get back. It is important when choosing a photographer that you like their style, of course, but its also important, if the photographs of your big day are important to you, that you understand how your photographer’s particular editing can play on the colors in your day.

Its also important, perhaps more so, to understand that editing plays a huge part in how you view inspiration photos. Here at Bad Rabbit Flowers we get lots of inspiration which our couples have taken from Pinterest, and we love this. Its a great way to communicate your style and aesthetic and for us to gain a working knowledge of your vision. However, its important to understand that most of the photos you are finding on Pinterest are edited to some degree. Sometimes colors in photos are very similar to reality, other times they couldn’t be more different. I have seen white flowers that look orange, pink flowers that look burgundy, reds that appear purple and greens that attain a yellow or blue aura under particular editing styles.

It is crucial, especially when choosing your colors, to understand that just because you see a flower in the perfect color in a photograph, does not mean that this flower exists in that color in reality. Make sure, if you are very particular about tones and hues, that you ask your florist if your inspiration colors are really attainable. It also can’t hurt, when choosing your photographer, to pay attention to their editing style in photos with flowers, and even talk to potential photographers as well as your florist about any concerns you have. Here at Bad Rabbit Flowers we always like to know who your photographer is so that we can advise you in the right direction.

To give you some side-by-side examples, below are a few photos that Katelyn of Katelyn Mallett Photography put together for us to show how small changes in the editing process have changed the colors in these bouquets.
